It should be noted that there may be more solutions that could deliver the same results as organic. One of the main features of Organic Farming is how well it integrates a number of important issues, which means that even if there are other solution to each individual problem, there are no other solution that to such a large extent is addressing most of the problems facing rural communities at the moment.
Apart from ‘problems to be solved’ there may be other good reasons to introduce organic production. These are more related to opportunities. The most obvious opportunity is consumers demand. The personal satisfaction of the farmer can be another one. |
| Organic Farming |
Organic farming is a production system that largely excludes the use of synthetically compounded fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and live stock feed additives. Organic farmers use compost, a mixture of biologically stabilized organic matter that is rich in beneficial soil microorganisms, and plant nutrients.

| Organic Farming - preferred method |
The awareness of the disastrous side effects of chemical farming has led to the popularity of organic farming. As the availability of land is decreasing day by day,
the application of fertilizers and pesticides became a major ingredient to meet the
increasing demand of food grains.
The effect of prolonged and overuse of chemicals on the soil result in human health hazards and pollute the environment. But organic farming on the other hand improves the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil.

Organic farming is profitable because of the low cost of production. Its success depends
on the efficient agronomic management to stimulate the productivity of the soil resource.

Organic farmers rely on pesticides and fertilizers derived from
plants, animal wastes and minerals.

Organic farming relies on crop rotation, crop residues, animal manure’s, legumes,
green manure’s, off farm organic wastes and aspects of biological pest control
system. This is to maintain soil productivity, to supply plant nutrients and to control
insects, weeds and other pests.
